Ladis Sabo

1870-1953

Considering the amazing quality of the body of work left behind, it is interesting that he began to paint in the last eight years of his life.  Leaving for the U.S. at the age of forty in 1910, the Hungarian born tailor settled with this wife and five children in Greenville, South Carolina.  Sabo later moved to New York city in 1942.  After he retired he received a gift of paints and brushes from his daughter which served as a catalyst for his painting career.  Ladis Sabo had his first show in the Galerie St. Etienne at the age of 76.
